The Lighthouse Motel offers a relaxing seaside experience with comfortable, well-maintained rooms and lovely ocean views. Guests consistently praise the cleanliness, cozy atmosphere, and convenient location near Qualicum Bay and Fanny Bay. However, recent reviews highlight some issues with communication and guest interactions.
What an extraordinary place. If you are looking for quiet, peaceful and serene. This is the place The seaside patio takes the edge off the day. Barbara is a superior host. Rooms are filled with an eclectic assortment of design elements from breakfast trays to original artwork. This is definitely the place to stay relax and unwind. If you're looking for a city scape bustling with activities, Qualicum Bay is not for you. But,if you desire a relaxing time by the seaside then the Lighthouse motel is for you.
Great waterfront location right on the beach. You can see the tide pools from the large seawall patio. Clean and comfortable rooms. All you need for a great stay. Barbara is very attentive and welcoming.
Booked months in advance for a pet friendly suite. Was told in the booking email that my card will be charged upon arrival and to look out for an email the day before or day of for a code to enter in my suite. Same email also had 2 different contact phone numbers and states that it is a self check in process with no manager on site. I received no email the day before or day of. While making our way to the motel from Victoria, I called the first phone number on the email. Call doesn’t go through and says the phone number is no longer in service. I call the second number, no one picks up and I leave a voice message. At this point, I’m getting nervous as we won’t be getting into the motel until late and I still don’t have a code to access the suite during the self check in. When I arrive, I call another phone number that I found on the website. Luckily, someone picks up. Barb (the owner or manager?) tells me to just come find her at the front which I was able to do. She tells me my suite is not available and that she’s been busy which is why she never emailed me a code. She tells me that we’ve been “upgraded” to the non pet friendly suite. She looks at my dog (a corgi), points to her and says my dog is absolutely NOT allowed on the furniture as she is a breed that sheds a lot (I agree about the shedding). She then lectures me on how to take care of the room and repeats that my dog is not allowed on the furniture. Not quite a pet friendly room aside from just allowing your pet to stay in the room with you honestly. Also not quite sure about how this was an upgrade as the room (suite #5) was quite small with just enough room to walk around the bed to go to the washroom. The light switch in the room didn’t even work. We found out later that the only light fixture in the room didn’t even have any light bulbs in them! There was also a suite above us and the guests were very loud in the middle of the night. You could hear every footstep and conversations they were having from inside the room. Sucks that there was no quiet hours enforced at the motel. Also we were given no information about the motel or even the WiFi password. I had to text Barb because I couldn’t find her on site shortly after she took my payment. She replied back a while later and said that there should be a card in the room with all this information and that if there wasn’t, then she was sorry as she was busy. Not quite sure how you would be too busy to send me the code to enter the suite before my arrival and then not set up the room properly for me to follow all your rules. The sea wall was a nice feature but you couldn’t really enjoy it when Barb was walking around and telling her other guests about the rules of the motel. I would go back into my suite every time I saw Barb just to avoid her from lecturing me again. The motel is also located beside a campsite/RV park so it would get really loud during the evenings and you couldn’t really enjoy the peaceful waves from the sea wall. The location was decent as you could go to comox for a day trip and it was also very close to Fanny Bay. Unfortunately, there is nothing much else that I can say in a positive manner about my experience. I’m sure if I received better customer service and hospitality from Barb, I could probably look past many of these things. Like a previous review said, Barb is quite “off-putting” which really was my only lasting impression of the motel.
This is a very quaint little motel. The room was immaculate. Small but just perfect in my opinion. I would of gave it 5 stars across the board but the lady who runs it was kinda off-putting. They advertise as pet friendly and I booked it online through their website and it's set up that you don't even have to see anyone to check in if you use a CC but I wanted to use debit so she proceeded to lecture me on how I'm to treat the room with my little Pomsky. Long story short I misunderstood her rules and had Iggy on the bed on top of my beach towel and she walked by and was PISSED and told me I was on thin ice. Hence the reason for the score. Just don't get on her bad side and you should be good to go
Excellent! The room was very clean with high-quality towels and bedding for an extra cozy stay. The motel has a fantastic outdoor patio overlooking the ocean, we enjoyed an oceanfront supper and sunset. Would highly recommend this stay!
This stay was an amazing surprise to find. Easy communication and no issues on booking. Barbara puts her touch in little details that make the room so cozy. Loved the views and quiet. The spacious area outside is amazing to spend time and have coffee at the sunrise and sunset. I would love to try the firepit next time. I'll definitely come back!
Great little hotel with super cute and comfortable rooms. Little details like the fast WiFi, great coffee maker, TV and outdoor patio set Barbara's place above others. We loved the sea view and the area to sit and enjoy the evening outside our unit. We hope to come back again in the future.
Great place to stay at Qualicum Bay!!! Right on the ocean with everything you need for a comfortable stay. VERY CLEAN and Barbara a great host wanting to ensure you have a positive stay. We stayed for a week and truly relaxing and close to all amenities. Don’t hesitate to enjoy the most comfortable beds and a bit of retro decor. Do Not pass this place without staying….Jim
Quiet little place by the beach with beautiful views. The units are clean and well taken care of. You’ll also find little goodies/details that just make the stay a bit more enjoyable from the owner Barbara (Keurig coffee/tea/hair dryer/fridge/quality soup, etc). The entire place has a consistent turquoise/blue aesthetic from the building paint to the bed sheets. Diners and cafes available nearby too. Overall very accessible and affordable.
Had a great overnight stay here at the lighthouse motel. We were pleasantly surprised and how cozy and well put together the room was (we stayed in room 3). They have updated the rooms to be very nice with new fridge, tv, fan, curtains and decorations. Barb was very sweet and the sunset was amazing. If we were staying longer, we would have for sure used the fire pit on the patio.
